Friends of the Shropshire Music Trust

The Friends’ support is vital to the continuing success of the Trust and to maintain this support new members are always needed and welcome. Becoming a Friend entitles you to:

  • Priority booking until 4 September

  • Advance notice of all concerts

  • Receipt of the Newsletter at regular intervals

  • The opportunity of joining the Friends on social occasions, and

  • Participating in events arranged to compliment the Trusts's main programme, such as introductory lectures to concerts and operas

A minimum annual donation of £6 per person or £10 for a couple is all that’s required to become a member of The Friends. Annual donations above these amounts are always welcome and gratefully received.

If you pay Income Tax then any sum paid to The Friends can be treated as a Gift Aid donation, enabling The Friends to recover the basic rate of income tax relative to the donation and increasing the value of any donation by 28p for every £1 donated. If you would like your donation to be considered as a Gift Aid Donation simply complete the declaration included within the Membership Application Form.

To reduce the clerical work of The Friends, donations can be made by completing the Standing Order Form and annual payments will then be made automatically by your bank until the order is revoked.

Applying for membership couldn’t be easier - simply complete the Friends Membership Application Form (above, right) either by filling out the printed form or fill it out on the screen (we're not accepting submission of online forms yet). Then please send the completed form with either a cheque or the completed Standing Order form, to:

J.W.Lees, Treasurer,
21 Mytton Oak Road,
Shrewsbury,
SY3 8UA

Membership application forms are also available at most concerts. By supporting The Friends you will also support the Shropshire Music Trust and ensure that the best in music and the best musicians continue to be available to Shropshire audiences.

Objectives of The Friends

"Friends of" is now commonly associated with a wide variety of organisations but when The Friends was formed in 1990 it was something of a ground breaking concept, particularly when allied to an organisation like the Music Trust. Even today it remains fairly unique.

From its formation the particular objective of The Friends has been "the support, maintenance and advancement of the charitable work of the Shropshire Music Trust". The Friends provide administrative and financial support to the Trust.  Administrative support includes the management of ticket sales, whether via the Shropshire Music Trust Box Office or at the concerts themselves, pre-concert venue liaison and carrying out the “front of house” reception and programme sales duties required at the majority of concerts.   Financial support is provided by a sizeable annual donation the money for which is generated by the Friends’ annual subscriptions and, on occasions, by special fund-raising concerts or events organised by The Friends themselves.
