"Tudor sounds spellbind audience"
The Sixteen
St Chad's Church, Shrewsbury
Shropshire Star 21/04/08
Shrewsbury's St Chad's Church rang out to the sounds of music from the Tudor period as it played host to a concert by The Sixteen, in the latest event in this year's Shropshire Music Season.
The Sixteen were visiting Shrewsbury as part of their nationwide Choral Pilgrimage, performing in many of the UK's finest cathedrals.
Organisers said the choir had the audience spellbound and clamouring for more as they listened to the enchanting programme of less well-known works by some of the great composers from the Tudor period.
Music lovers who missed the performance will have a second chance to listen as the programme was recorded by BBC Radio 3 and will be played on the Early Music programme introduced by Catherine Bott on August 3.
Shropshire Music Season spokesman David Leake said: "The event was made possible by Kate Hogwood and The Shropshire Music Trust who do sterling work in bringing music of such quality to own town and country. Each year we are introduced to a wonderfully varied and enticing programme.
"Kate and her team cannot be thanked enough for securing performers of such calibre who present us with the best of the world's music and music-making both as audiences and participants"
