Audience enchanted by Silk and BambooShropshire Music Trust - The Shrewsbury Music Hall
Shrewsbury Chronicle - 21 February 2008
Chinese New Year came a week early for the Music Hall audience as the Silk and Bamboo Ensemble enchanted a near-capacity theatre.
Traditional and contemporary pieces from across China featured in the concert by the Shropshire Music Trust.
We heard some exquisite dulcimer playing by Royal Northern College of Music graduate Han Ying, while the audience was left spellbound by Liu Ziaohu with his bamboo flute-like instruments.
The highlight of the evening was the final ensemble piece and Chinese fiddle player Qiu Zenghui’s melodies. Dancer Gina Wei also performed two solo items which demonstrated her mastery of a range of styles.
All in all, an evening designed to stir the imagination and conjure up images of China old and new.
